Black eyes bright in the years spent against
Solemn and true
Ecstasies you’ll taste when you’re dead
A decadent dread
Your heroes have only torn themselves down
The powers that are are unafraid now
Discipline won’t make your body your own
She wants what you won’t
So come in the violet hour and see me again
Your thick skin is aflame in January wind
I am nothing you want your true love to be
But in the violet hours you’ll still run to me
The old complaint painted over again
But the wound still remains
Your heroes have grown indifferent and wan
The powers that are are more powerful now
You’re chained to the mast as the waves rush round
You’ll drown if you must
So come in the violet hour and see me again
Your thick skin is worn, your spirit unbent
I am all that you want to leave in defeat
In the violet hours you’ll still run to me

Remember how Bill Murray woke up to I Got You Babe every day in Groundhog Day? If that song would have been Made Of Moods, he at the very least experienced three and a half perfect minutes each day. It’s one of those songs that I enjoy each and every second of, with it’s jangly guitars and hushed vocals that almost have a Beach Boys vibe, especially in the verse. Truly, it’s a song for the ages. But the best news about Still Life is that it offers eleven additional underground pop gems. Niek || Add To Wantlist
